If you operate a yacht you will need a VHF Radio. It is an important piece of safety equipment and understanding how to use it correctly could save your life. Having your VHF Radio licence is also very useful when sailing dinghies or volunteering at the club.
The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required to operate a VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel fitted with a radio whether its fixed or hand held.
Erith has several VHF Radios for use around the club and during club events. These should only be used by members with a VHF Radio Licence in accordance with the Procedures for VHF Club Radios .
Erith Yacht Club runs training that will allow you to get your VHF Radio Licence. More information about the content of the course is available from the RYA website.
Please email the training team if you are interested in getting your VHF Radio Licence course or have a question about the course.
