Sailing

Erith Yacht club members are active yacht, cruiser and dinghy sailors many with boats out on the river all year round. Our membership is made up of a mix of boat owners and those who sail club dinghies.

Club members regularly get out on the water taking part in a range of organised social sailing and racing as well their own independent sailing. We operate a volunteer run RYA certified training centre to deliver a range of sail and powerboat training courses. All club organised sailing events are listed on our calendar and of course are all dependent on the weather, and other unforeseen events may effect our event schedule

Our club hosts a range of vessels. As well as a fleet of club dinghies, availabile for hire to members, and utility vessels our members keep a wide variety of boats at the club from single handed dinghies through to larger yachts and cruising vessels. Members are generally welcoming to other sailors looking to experience sailing on different types of boats so Erith Yacht club is ideal for both dinghy and yacht sailing.

Yacht and cruiser sailing

There is a wide range of opportunies to get involved in sailing your yacht from Eirth with boats owned individually, by couples and some groups of members sharing ownership. Crewing opportunities also exist for short and longer sailing trips.

Owners with a wide range of ages, backgrounds and interests including day sailing, racing and longer journeys around the UK and abroad.

Members often organise excursions together providing support, assistance and of course companionship.

Social sailing

Not all our members are race hardened compeditors with the majority enjoying cruising up and down (and sometimes around) the Thames as a social and recreational activity.

For current and prospective members we host a variety of organised social sailing opportunities, with plans and updates published in the Newsletter and the Sailing Updates Group on WhatsApp. Alongside these events members are active in their own adhoc recreational sailing on their own boats alone, with other club members and guests.

Racing

Many Erith members are keen race compeditors and our youth sailing has produced a sailors that have gone onto success at high level sailing across the country. Erith operates organised dinghy and yacht racing and race training events and are keen to encourage visiting sailors to join in, bring their own boats or join our events as crew.

Training

Erith Yacht Club offers a range of RYA recognised sailing and powerboat related courses to both members and non-members to introduce you to sailing and helming power boats. Alongside social sailing opportunities training provides a great way to start getting out on the water and build your skills.

Sailing Opportunities for U18s

We have a Junior and Youth section (JYS) that runs every second Sunday afternoon for kids with at least a Stage 2 qualification or similar experience. We work with Danson Park Adventures in Bexley so the kids can do Stage 1 and 2 before heading out under our care onto the Thames.

Youth membership is free up to the age of 25 and also allows you to keep a boat at the club so can be a great way to get out onto the water regularly.

For more information on how to get involved with the JYS sessions please contact Jeremy Michell (secretary@erithyachtclub.org.uk).

Sailing area

The sailing directly around Erith Yacht Club on Erith Rands and Anchor Bay on the River Thames provides an enjoyable but still challenging sailing conditions in a wide part of the river with clear winds and a range of tidal effects.

Crewing with club members

Club members are always looking for crew with opportunities on cruisers and dinghies
