Training at EYC
While EYC has not been able to run any courses so far in 2020, we aim to run a limited number of powerboat courses from October in line with Government and RYA guidelines. Our initial priority will be those who booked before the COVID outbreak or are from the same household, but we still encourage people to contact us to see if there are spaces for late 2020 and into 2021.
WELCOME to Erith Yacht Club's Training Webpage. Here you will find basic details of what we offer, where, and what you can expect from a course run by us. Sailing will open up new and exciting experiences, keep you fit and allow you to meet new friends. We hope that you will enjoy the courses here and potentially become a member of EYC.
Erith Yacht Club is an established Royal Yachting Association (RYA) recognised training centre. Importantly, all instructors hold an RYA Instructor qualification and the club is inspected annually.
Using the RYA youth and adults schemes, our courses provide clear pathways from beginner to advanced levels in a safe environment. These sailing and powerboat courses use the Club’s fleet of dinghies, keel boats, and powerboats (RIBs). As well as dinghy courses, we offer a range of shore-based courses for cruiser sailors. This includes RYA Day Skipper Theory and Coastal and Yachtmaster Theory. Water-based courses are also available.
All courses are run on the River Thames off the clubhouse in a controlled environment with safety boat cover. The shore-based sessions are held in the classrooms in the clubhouse.
What we provide:
To ensure you don’t have to buy anything special for the courses we provide the buoyancy aids and wetsuits. We will also issue you with a logbook as part of the course and any appropriate handouts. We also supply tea and biscuits.
What you need to bring:
Please bring a change of clothes with you as well as footwear that can get wet, such as trainers. Also, a packed lunch as the galley is not always open.
Course duration and ratios:
All the courses below are two-day courses, run over a weekend from 9am to 5pm each day. All courses run on a ratio of 1 instructor to 3 students if in powerboats or double-hander dinghies, or 1 instructor to 6 students if in single-hander dinghies.
