RYA Shore-based Courses
EYC runs a number of shore-based courses to support sailors who want to add more their competencies. For instance we run a First Aid course, VHF Marine Radio (Short Range Certificate) course - a requirement if you frequently use a radio on the water. Where there is demand we can also organise a Day Skipper Theory course.

First Aid Course:
This is a one-day practical course run in the clubhouse. As well as the usual elements relating to First Aid training, it includes important information about cold water shock, hypothermia and discussions about the realities of doing First Aid in a marine environment. It is well worth doing this course. Please wear loose clothing as you will be required to kneel on the floor and move about.
The next First Aid Course is Saturday 14 March 2020. Start time is 9am.
Fee: £40 per person.
VHF Radio Course (SRC):
Our RYA Training Centre at Erith Yacht Club is the ideal venue to complete the RYA VHF radio course. Including the training and assessment for the RYA VHF Marine Radio - Short Range Certificate.
This course covers the use of a VHF Radio equipped with Digital Selective Calling (DSC). This replaces the previous VHF Radio Operators Certificate and is part of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS).
All VHF Radio users need to obtain this certificate to operate their radios safely and legally!
Fee: £TBC per person
An additional payment of £60 (payable to the RYA) is required for the life-long licence.
You will also need a passport photo on the day of the course
Day Skipper Theory Course:
This course is a comprehensive five-day course run from EYC's classroom. It covers important aspects of chartwork, tides, navigational hazards and marks, meteorology and the International Collision Regulations. The course also gives you practical information on anchoring, entering/exiting harbours, rules of the road and passage planning for a trip. Ultimately, you will be given the theoretical knoweledge to complement your practical skills - it is recommended that this course is done before the Day Skipper Practical.
There are currently no dates scheduled for running this course.
Fee: TBC per person.
