As part of the development of the club, a prominent member, Michael Robinson, became interested in the old workboats of the Hamble. These 14ft carvel dinghies were being broken up, and so a six were brought to Erith.
The Hamble Star became a stalwart of the club for teaching youth members how to sail, and for the long distant trips in Holland and up the East Coast.
The club now has a fleet of three Hamble Stars and with one additional boat owned by a club member. As dinghy design and youth tastes change, the boats are now looked after by a dedicated band in the Erith Star Class dedicated to maintaining the boats to ensure their survival. Their maintenance is also supported by the Micheal Robinson Sailing Trust.
Our Hamble stars are regulars in our Social sailing and day trips. Members can ‘Adopt a Star’ for a nominal annual fee and have use of the boat while recieving support and assistance from other club members to maintain it.
