The Shed

The main shed at Erith is a key resource for club members in the the maintenance and restoration of their own as well as club vessels and all of the related equipment that supports sailing at the club. Its where club members have restored and maintain our fleet of Hamble Stars, keep our fleet of club dinghies ready for use.

Its also a space where work best bought off boats and done in warm dry conditions with the use of the range of tools, wood and metal working machines available. It allows members to work on the boat (or part of it) and has seen many problems solved and labours of love come to fruition.

The shed is also a training ground for members to pass on their skills and experience to others and a key place for newer members to learn boat maintenance and practical skills from wealth of talent from within our membership.

Its also a key social space where members can pass the time together debating key sailing, club administration and topical issues and is well located to welcome visitors to the club as they enter the site.

Tools, equipment & machinery

A wide range of wood and metal working machinery hand and power tools are available within the shed. Vehicle access allows dinghies to be brought inside to be worked on , grounds maintenance equipment

Sail loft and equipment storage

Our sail loft upstairs in the Shed is both storage and work area with allocated shelves for members equipment as well as a large clear, flat, dry indoor floor area to maintain and repair sails.

Kitchen

The shed has a kitchen with tea and coffee making facilties.

Wood burning stove

Our maintenence shed is warmed in the winter with a wood burning stove that makes use of the ample volumne of material available to the club. This makes the shed both a more comfortable work environment but also, thanks to some indoor and outdoor seating, a good space to socialise with members in the summer or winter months.

Kit store

Thanks to donations from several of our supporters the club has a range of sailing kit available for use by club members and visitors. This is arranged and stored in the Kit Store for easy access to and ensure it remains dry and ready to use when needed.

Tractor shed

Our tractor shed stores larger club heavy machinery used to move vessels around the yard. Use of heavy machinery at the club is subject to club procedures and completion of

External toliets, shower and changing area

As well as toliet, shower and changing areas inside our clubhouse we also have a toliet block conveniently located next to our maintenance shed which remains open for members to use.

Shipping containers

The club has purchased several shipping containers store , members outboards, club ribs and a range of other club equipment. All of these are kept securely locked. Members can get obtain more information about where what equipment is stored in each container and which are available for club members use.

Noticeboard

Key information including the mooring allocation is published on the Shed Notice board. Members should check the noticebord for updates and important information.

Shed fees

In order to discourage use of our sheds for excess storage and to fund machinary and equipment purchases there is a a small annual fee for use of the sheds and workshop by members who wish to make use of them.

Security & safety

Members should familiarise themselves with the Shed Standard Operating procedures covering aspects of Heath and Safety, security and consideration for other members in their use of the Maintenace sheds.
